Deskripsi:

Artist :  I Nyoman Gunarsa Title : Wayang/ Puppet Size :  310 x 150 cm Year :  1997 Material : Watercolor on Canvas  Description : Gunarsa’s interest in Balinese puppets started since he was child, initiated by painting puppet characters on the wall with charcoal, and continued by learning to do a puppeteer with his uncle. The reflection on Gunarsa‟s life experience on traditional Balinese art is much manifested in his paintings, one of them is the painting entitled ‘Wayang (Puppet)’. It describes Balinese leather puppet shows, played by puppeteers who are playing puppets, some musicians dressed in Balinese customs, with a headdress called udeng, are motivated by 6 female dancer figures decorated with golden flowers on their heads, and on the right side are male figures watching the show. The figure of the figures in this painting is described as close to the naturalist style, there is the impression of perspective, and volume. The colors poured on human objects are more towards the naturalist colors of Indonesian skin, namely chocolate and ocher. The composition of the object tends to be full, though it does not look crowded when viewed because it is balanced with the white color of the screen behind the puppet, which gives the impression of space.
